Dr. Md. Shafi Uddin

Dr. Md. Shafi Uddin brings his plant quarantine and SPS expertise to TRACE Consulting as technical expert – plant quarantine and SPS compliance systems. In this role, he serves as the firm's technical resource on agricultural export compliance, pest risk management, and SPS measures—aligning client frameworks with international phytosanitary standards, including compliance frameworks for agricultural exporters and pest risk assessments tied to market access, benchmarked against IPPC and WTO SPS Agreement requirements. He also supports TRACE Consulting's capacity-building and training work in agri-trade projects, designing curricula and delivering technical training to extension officers, exporters, and counterpart agency staff, extending the firm's trade facilitation expertise into plant health and biosecurity.

He brings over 32 years of distinguished service in the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), where he held pivotal senior leadership roles, including director of the Plant Quarantine Wing and the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) representative under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).

Holding a PhD in Entomology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Dr. Shafi Uddin has led national programs on plant health policy, pest risk management, and compliance with international sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures. He has represented Bangladesh at prominent global forums throughout his career, including the FAO's Commission on Phytosanitary Measures and the Asia-Pacific Plant Protection Commission.

Beyond regulatory leadership, he has served as principal of agricultural training institutes in Cumilla and Rangamati, dedicating years to training thousands of farmers and extension officers. He has published extensive research and practical manuals on pest management and sustainable agriculture and remains an active, respected member of key professional bodies, including the Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh.
