The Central Disease Investigation Laboratory (CDIL), the national apex reference facility under the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), plays a critical role in safeguarding Bangladesh’s animal health, livestock productivity, and public health security. TRACE Consulting experts were engaged to provide comprehensive technical assistance for ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, strengthening diagnostic competence, biosafety governance, and international credibility.
The assignment involved a comprehensive readiness assessment of CDIL’s molecular biology, virology, bacteriology, and pathology units, identifying critical gaps in quality documentation, method validation, equipment calibration, environmental monitoring, and sample traceability. TRACE developed a veterinary diagnostics-focused Quality Management System (QMS), including SOPs, quality manuals, PCR/ELISA and bacteriological method validation, equipment management, international Proficiency Testing (PT) participation, and personnel training in internal auditing.
The project aims to prepare CDIL for formal assessment by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), enhancing diagnostic reliability, disease surveillance, outbreak response, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring while strengthening Bangladesh’s One Health framework and alignment with WOAH guidelines and WTO Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) requirements.
