Laboratory Improvement Ongoing

Facilitating Global PT Schemes for the BSTI Halal Testing Laboratory

Client: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI)

Project Overview

The Halal Laboratory at the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) serves as a critical national infrastructure, ensuring consumer products meet stringent religious, safety, and quality conformity guidelines. To independently verify its analytical accuracy and maintain its trajectory toward continuous ISO/IEC 17025:2017 compliance, the laboratory required participation in highly specialized, internationally recognized Proficiency Testing (PT) programs.

TRACE Consulting facilitated BSTI Halal Laboratory’s participation in a globally recognized Proficiency Testing (PT) program accredited to ISO/IEC 17043 and specifically designed to address relevant Halal testing parameters. The program was delivered by KIMIA, Malaysia, a national agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and an ISO/IEC 17043-accredited PT Provider. With advanced technical infrastructure, established technical competence, and a robust quality management framework, KIMIA provides internationally recognized PT services that support the reliable evaluation of laboratory performance and the demonstration of technical competence in Halal testing.

This strategic participation allowed the laboratory to benchmark its testing capabilities against global peers, validate its methodologies, safeguard national certification integrity, and build the international confidence necessary to facilitate cross-border trade.

By acting as the coordinating partner, TRACE Consulting delivered comprehensive, end-to-end support from identifying the appropriate international provider to managing the complex logistics of sample compliance and cross-border procurement, ensuring BSTI met its quality assurance objectives seamlessly and without administrative bottlenecks.

Project Scopes

  • Reviewed the BSTI Halal Laboratory’s testing scope to identify precise PT requirements for critical Halal conformity parameters.
  • Engaged a highly credible, ISO/IEC 17043-accredited international PT provider offering specialized matrices for Halal and food safety testing.
  • Managed cross-border procurement, foreign payment protocols, and compliance with the provider's rigorous enrollment criteria.
  • Coordinated international shipping, ensuring strict adherence to temperature controls, preservation protocols, and customs regulations to maintain absolute matrix integrity.
  • Guided the laboratory team through PT protocols, including sample handling instructions, analytical reporting formats, and submission deadlines.
  • Compiled participation records, performance evaluations, and compliance documentation to strengthen readiness for formal ISO/IEC 17025 audits.

Expected Outcomes

  • Validated the laboratory's analytical capabilities against global peers through a recognized, accredited international PT scheme.
  • Bolstered the credibility of BSTI’s testing services, reinforcing stakeholder confidence in the national Halal certification process.
  • Navigated complex international shipping and customs, ensuring highly sensitive PT samples arrived safely and uncompromised.
  • Exposed personnel to standardized quality assurance protocols, eliminating reliance on ad hoc benchmarking and confirming testing reliability.
  • Built a robust portfolio of technical competence and PT performance evidence, fulfilling mandatory ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
