Consultancy for Developing Laboratory Information Management System for PRAN Quality Control Laboratory

Client: Nextgen Innovation Ltd.

Project Overview

PRAN Group, a leading Bangladeshi agribusiness and food-processing conglomerate exporting to over 145 countries, requires robust, high-throughput quality control to meet international food safety standards and regulatory requirements. TRACE Consulting experts, in partnership with Nextgen Innovation Ltd., provided specialized technical consultancy for the design and deployment of an enterprise Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for PRAN’s Quality Control Laboratory.

The assignment involved assessing laboratory workflows, including sample reception, physico-chemical and microbiological testing, day to day work connectivity, and data management, against ISO/IEC 17025 data governance principles and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Based on the assessment, TRACE developed functional specifications and system architecture incorporating sample registration, end-to-end traceability, and automated test parameter assignment against product-specific acceptance limits.

The initiative aims to replace fragmented paper-based records with an integrated digital ecosystem, improving data integrity, accelerating testing turnaround, reducing production delays, and strengthening regulatory audit-readiness across PRAN’s quality control operations.

Project Scopes

  • Conducted comprehensive diagnostics of existing laboratory workflows to define functional requirements, identify process bottlenecks, and map digital integration pathways.
  • Designed a scalable LIMS architecture tailored to automate sample tracking, inventory management, and complex analytical workflows.
  • Ensured the LIMS design mapped seamlessly to ISO/IEC 17025 standards and international food safety requirements, embedding quality control checkpoints into the digital framework.
  • Guided the deployment phases, providing technical oversight to ensure the software development aligned with the laboratory's specific scientific and operational needs.
  • Developed targeted digital transition documentation and delivered training to ensure seamless user adoption of the new system.

Key Outcomes

  • Implemented end-to-end digital tracking of samples from receipt to final test report generation, significantly reducing turnaround times and tracking blind spots.
  • Minimized manual data entry errors and data silos through structured digital workflows and automated calculation matrices.
  • Embedded ISO/IEC 17025 operational requirements directly into the system, featuring audit prerequisite and electronic signatures.
  • Enabled real-time data visibility and dynamic reporting capabilities in manufacturing quality control.
  • Streamlined the management of materials and reagent inventory through the system.
